Rhythmix at Albion High School

As part of the 'Love to Learn' week in July 2009 at Albion High School, Rhythmix provided 3 days of workshops covering percussion, voice & movement and media production. The aims of this workshops was to bring together the different cultures within the school in a fun and engaging way, exploring and celebrating cultural diversity. Sam Twyman was involved in the planning stages, working alongside the facilitators to map out the series of workshops and events. Dora Cruz facilitated the voice & movement workshops exploring hip-hop, african and brazilian styles and taught a song in the ancient Yoruba language.  Zac Sargent facilitated the percussion workshops bringing the variety of sounds of Afro-Brazilian music. All of the workshops worked towards a final ensemble piece performed for the whole school. Mat Johns facilitated media training, enabling the pupils to film the entire process. Sam Twyman edited together the footage to produce a 30 minute film for the school, highlighting the pupils learning and engagement, and the final performances. The entire process was designed to encourage as much creative initiative and participation as possible, with pupils bringing their own cultures and style to the project.
