CRIS are currently running creative and multimedia projects for young people aged between 13 and 19 years old across Salford and Manchester. This is currently being funded by the Youth Development Sector Fund. CRIS's objectives are to work specifically in areas of high deprivation, where social, educational and economic exclusion is an issue.
Sam Twyman currently works as a freelancer for CRIS, delivering video workshops on a regular basis. His recent projects with CRIS include:
-Video workshop for young people at the Beacon Youth Centre in Salford
This project was delivered in a deprived area of Salford providing a positive activity to engage the local
young people. The project consisted of a series of short films and interviews designed to challenge
negative stereotypes of the local area and population. The workshops also helped the participants achieve
a silver Duke of Edinburgh award.
-Video workshop for young people at Route 53 Pupil Referal Unit at Moston College
This project was delivered alongside choreography and music production modules encouraging a group of
pupils outside mainstream education to work together to create a music video.
-Video workshop for young people at Higher Blackley Youth Centre
This project was delivered alongside music production in facilitating a group of young people outside mainstream
education in creating a series of short horror films. The project covered film analysis, scriptwriting, storyboarding,
cinematography, directing, location sound and production. The project was a great opportunity to develop team skills and confidence.
Sam Twyman has also assisted other facilitators in other media projects with young people through CRIS including ones at West Gorton Youth Centre and Islington Mill, Salford.
